West Tower Wedding Photography – Rachel & Sam

Jan 10, 2020

Rachel and Sam held their wedding at the stunning West Tower in Lancashire in autumn, and asked me along to photograph their big day.

West Tower is somewhere we’ve wanted to photograph or film at for quite a long time now. So, to be able to finally be involved in a wedding here was absolutely amazing.

West Tower Wedding Photography – Rachel & Sam | West Tower is a gorgeous old manor house in east Lancashire. It’s surrounded by beautiful countryside. They have quite a lot of land surrounding the buildings too, so it has a very private secluded feel. In autumn the trees are ablaze with colour, and on their day there was a beautiful carpet of golden leaves in the surrounding woods.

We absolutely LOVE Rachel & Sam’s story of how they got together. The part about the sprouts makes us laugh every time so we just had to share it with you:

‘We met whilst studying at the University of Birmingham, at a Christmas night out which ended eating raw brussel sprouts at 3am. Three years later, degrees completed we moved to Liverpool to start working. A year later we moved in together and following this bought our first home in Chester.

Sam proposed in December 2018 on Calton Hill in Edinburgh after walking around with the ring his pocket for three full days!

The wedding planning then began.

The family started in January 2019 with two kittens (Comet and Midnight), and we hope in the future that more animals and people will join us.’

It was very much a day of fun and laughter, with Zanda Magic entertaining in the bar in the afternoon. We managed to get outside for a brief time in the beautiful autumn colours. This was amazing for throwing confetti, and for taking Rachel & Sam away for some alone time. There was something beautiful in every direction, but what particularly caught my eye were the autumn colours in  one of the adjoining fields.

After testing how soft the ground was, we made our way through the trees to a beautiful spot with low hanging branches full of crunchy auburn leaves. We spent a few minutes here before returning to the party. The light was gorgeous, and it was great for Rachel & Sam to be away on their own for a few moments together.

We asked Rachel & Sam to share a few wedding planning tips with you.

They did such an awesome job of pulling it all together and West Tower had the perfect feel for the vibe of their day.

‘Go to the wedding venue open nights. They often have suppliers attending. Instagram is useful for ideas. Venues often tag suppliers they are used to using’

‘I’m from Preston and Sam is from Liverpool. Ormskirk was in the middle of both of these locations. So, it felt like an apt place for the meeting not two families.

We had seen photos of other people getting married at West Tower. We thought the venue looked lovely, so went to look around.

When we looked around, we liked the feel of the place. So after looking at a few other venues, we booked.

Then the planning commenced! I think cake and menu tasting were the best bits!’

Thank you SO much for involving us in your wedding day, I had an awesome time photographing your wedding, and West Tower was a fantastic place. I can’t wait to go back!

West Tower is a fab place, and we’d love to return to photograph more weddings there! If you’re planning a wedding at West Tower and need a videographer or photographer, then get in touch here. We’d love to chat about what we can do for you 🙂
