Sandon Hall Wedding Photography – Julia & Marcus

May 6, 2017

Sandon Hall Wedding Photography – Julia & Marcus | Wow, what a an incredible start to our year of wedding photography! We woke up to a fresh three-point-five degrees and a clear blue sky, and set off to Stone in Staffordshire to re-visit one of our favourite ever wedding venues.

Sandon Hall Wedding Photography | Julia and Marcus chose the unbelievably beautiful Sandon Hall near Stone for their wedding. Just driving through the four hundred acres of parkland amid deer and sheep to reach the main house got us excited for the day ahead.

Julia was getting ready with her bridesmaids in The Garden Room. A vast suite overlooking the front of the house. It has beautiful antique furniture and walls full of old photographs of the family who spent their lives in the house. It really feels like being a guest at a private estate at Sandon. It’s far from sanitised tourist-friendly reproduction ‘manor houses’. Sandon Hall has a real sense of authenticity and personality. I think that’s a huge part of why we really connect with Sandon and love spending time there. There’s life and soul in the house, and weddings there have an effortlessly classy charm without pretence. Whenever we get to produce wedding photography and videography here, it’s just such an absolute pleasure to be part of these wonderful surroundings.

We started in the bedroom, Katie and I both working to photograph Julia’s stunning dress in the natural light of those HUGE windows. I left Katie in the excited bustle of bridal preparations, and headed over to Stafford to meet Marcus and his groomsmen getting ready at The Swan Hotel.

Sandon Hall estate has it’s own small church. That’s where we headed for the ceremony, with an intimate gathering of close friends and family. We then moved the party back up to the main house.

It was the first properly sunny day of the year, and the Orangery (one of our favourite parts of Sandon) played host to drinks and canapés. We took this opportunity to take our bride and groom away for some alone time, and some portraits around the incredible house. Starting in the drawing room with it’s hand-painted Chinese bird wallpaper, we continued into the Library. It’s always good to get away from the bustle of the main wedding party for a few minutes alone.

We then joined the guests for the wedding breakfast. It was a beautiful three courses and a great time with guests before we photographed the speeches ahead of the evening party. A further hundred guests arrived for the evening as we spotted a sunset emerging from behind the clouds. We all ran out of the front, across the drive and fields. All to spend some time in the early evening light watching the sun go down over the Staffordshire countryside.

While we were out, the main hall was tranformed for the evening party. The doors to the drawing room were opened. Revealing a staggering array of cakes baked by no other than our fab Bride and Groom themselves. We partied late, before saying farewell to Sandon Hall  – hopefully we’ll be back soon!
