Owen House Wedding Barn Photography Cheshire – Steph & Steven
So, where to begin with Steph & Steven’s wedding? After their pre-wedding shoot at the John Rylands Library last year, we knew this day was going to be something off-the-scale special. Before their wedding, we’d never been to Owen House Barn in Cheshire, but we’d viewed it longingly from afar. It’s a wonderful space with so much scope for personalisation. And being completely self-contained from prep until party time means no travelling, no stress, and just the buildup to one epic celebration party.
We met Steph & Steven putting some finishing touches to the beautiful barn in the morning, before they both went to get ready for the wedding ceremony. The level of detail these two put into decorating the venue was mind-blowing. They used personal touches from their travels, beautifully integrated Studio Ghibli hints with soot sprites everywhere (yes, we’re Ghibli-obsessed), and autumnal colours and details everywhere.
Steph & Steven pulled off such an awesome atmosphere and personal feel, we couldn’t resist asking for them to share some hints from their wedding planning process. If you’re planning your own wedding and need some advice to start making the most of personalising your day, you need to listen to these two.
Wedding Planning Tips and Recommendations.
‘Find a Fab Lab! They offer free use of laser cutters, vinyl cutters and even 3D printers. With a bit of effort and perseverance, they are great for creating personalised elements for the big day without spending a fortune on Etsy.
Spreadsheets are your friend. I used Google Drive throughout the wedding to keep track of save the dates and invitations being sent. As well as recipient addresses, budgets for each part of the day, table plans, possible vendor choices etc. It’s made it really easy to share. Everyone involved can add their own bits and edit. If you’re a fan of to-do lists, then Google Keep is a great way to create tick lists that sync in the cloud so you can complete them at a laptop or on your phone.’
‘When I proposed, I had no idea how much went into wedding planning. We are both obsessed with details and making everything feel considered and thoughtful. This led us to creating our own Save the dates, invites, centrepieces, table plan, order of the day and room decorations. The hardest part was choosing the venue. We would travel for 3 hours to a place we immediately hated and then finally found Owen House on our doorstep. It felt very similar to when we found our new house. As soon as we walked into the building there was an immediate connection. Since then, Owen House have continued to evolve the grounds and improve on their offering, which is great.
The Wedding Theme.
The theme was probably the easiest decision, as we immediately knew that travel would lend itself so well to what we wanted to do. It’s such a huge part of our lives. We love discovering new places, meeting new people, learning about new cultures. And sharing our experiences in the hopes that we can encourage others. We have been fairly strict with the theme. But, we have deviated slightly to allow us to include some geeky / Japanese influences throughout. Such as Soot Sprites hidden everywhere, Japanese cranes made of comic book pages, Jenga on some of the tables, and other little touches. (we have KitKats as treats in a glass jar and these symbolise good luck in Japan, where the name is an approximation of “kitto katsu”).
Amongst our friends, we are pretty well known for our themed house parties. Sausage Fest (a BBQ party) in Summer and cheese fest in Winter. Our evening food is themed to mimic our parties as we enjoy spending this time with our friends so much.’
From the morning prep until the evening party, we had an absolutely awesome time. Steph & Steven have such a lovely bunch of family and friends, that we just felt like an integral part of the day. When love it when this happens. After the wedding ceremony and a couple of drinks and canapes, we took some time to take Steph & Steven out around the grounds of Owen House Barn for some alone time and some portraits. We were treated to some beautiful evening light and some colour in the sky. We couldn’t resist taking them out later for a couple of night shots too. There’s so many beautiful spots around the barn in both the daytime and the night time.
Thank you SO much for involving us indoor big day; it was an unbelievable pleasure – same time next year guys!?
