Orrell Hill Woods, Liverpool Wedding Photography – Anna & Chris
Orrell Hill Woods, Liverpool Wedding Photography – Anna & Chris; When we saw the running order for Anna & Chris’ wedding, and the mentions of cake at multiple points during the day, we started to get excited.
This was our first time photographing a wedding in Liverpool, despite living just over an hour away. What an introduction we’ve had to it! We started the morning in a gorgeous AirBnB house, with Anna and her bridesmaids getting ready on all three floors! Katie captured the action with this wonderful and welcoming group of friends and family, whilst I went off to Anna and Chris’ house down the road where the boys were starting to get ready.
Anna and Chris had an unbelievable 250 guests at their ceremony. Because of the size, they’d struggled to find somewhere local that would accommodate everyone they wanted to witness them getting married. So, an ex-primary-school-turned-church, with a large assembly hall was the answer! Anna and Chris had a live band playing throughout the ceremony, and good friends officiating the ceremony. It was an energetic and emotional ceremony with lots of personality that fit perfectly with Anna and Chris, their friends and family.
After the ceremony, the first as-promised cake was served with tea, coffee, congratulations and lots of happy tears. It was delicious, especially the mini victoria-sponges which made me feel like a giant eating a normal-sized cake. Anna and Chris exited to confetti, and we drove them away for some portraits at the stunning Formby Pinewoods.
After a 40 minute drive, we arrived at the woods. We’ve been to woods before, we thought we knew what to expect. But this spot was just incredible, and it’s now on our list of locations to revisit. It’s a really tranquil set of trails through, as you’d expect, pine woods. The uneven terrain, the ancient trees, it feels like something from a hollywood movie set, and we loved spending some time here with the newlyweds making some portraits with them.
After we left the woods – ice cream in hand from the Mr Whippy (although Mrs Whippy, technically) van, we headed to our final destination of the day – Orrell Hill Woods.
Nestled in fern woodlands, a gorgeous totally transparent marquee was waiting for us. Because of the clear roof, we could see through to the treetops right up until sunset. After dark, the custom-made lighting with vintage Edison bulbs set a romantic scene for the party.
There were fire pits, a slack-line (read: drunken tight-roping fun between the trees), and a hog-roast BBQ buffet to die for. After the wedding breakfast and speeches, we took Anna and Chris away for some more portraits as the sun dropped. As we exited the woods, we spotted a field with a perfect view of the sunset. We spent a few minutes here in the beautiful light, and then headed back in to the party.
Anna and Chris had Liverpool University’s Big Band take us into the evening. Starting with Weather Report’s iconic Birdland, they played a mixture of jazz standards alongside PostModernJukebox-Style covers late into the night.
The night ended with Anna and Chris exiting the party through a tunnel of sparklers to a waiting taxi, to begin their mini-moon in the Lake District.
