Millennium Gallery, Sheffield Wedding Photography – Amie & Richard
Sheffield is a place we’ve really grown fond of over the past few years. Being from a sleepy little seaside town on the west coast, it’d be easy to think we’d shy away from cities, but we love it.
It’s completely unique, has a great feel, and being somewhat out of our comfort zone is always good for us creatively. So, when Amie & Richard got in touch to see if we were available to photograph their wedding there, we got that little nervous feeling of excitement. And then, when they told us they’d booked the Millennium Gallery, we knew we had to be involved with their wedding!
The Millennium Gallery is an architectural marvel in the centre of Sheffield. It’s surrounded by the Peace Gardens, and the Winter Gardens to the rear are just mind-blowing. We literally didn’t know where to start just on locations. When the beautiful golden light emerged during our brief walk out into the city for some portraits, we were totally in our element.
Amie just happens to be AWESOME at planning, and by the totally perfect execution of their wedding day, we’re calling her our new wedding planning expert. So, if you’re in the midst of planning your own wedding we thought it might be useful to take some time to share with you some of her thought processes.
‘Ignore what everyone else wants and just do what makes you happy! Ignore tradition and old fashioned relatives, times are changing so go with it. Also keep track of everything! I’ve been using a massive google doc and it has everything I’ll ever need to refer to in it, it’s been so useful.
‘We didn’t really have much idea what we wanted when we started looking at venues so we looked at everything; manors, country houses, museums until we decided the grandior of manors wasn’t for us. We saw Millennium Gallery posted on a list of interesting wedding venues and went to have a look. It’s pure simplicity and beautiful airy room was perfect, nice simple blank canvas to work on.
The theme has been a hard one to nail given how blank the starting canvas is! We both love Japan so we knew we wanted to get something in there. We’ve ended up with Japanese food for the wedding breakfast and origami hanging from the ceiling. I’ve enjoyed wedding planning but then I plan things for a living so it came very easily to me, it was making decisions that was hardest. You’re often handing over a lot of money at once and it’s hard to know if it’s the right thing to do. Always trust your gut though.’
Amie & Richard’s wedding day at The Millennium Gallery was super laid-back, fun-and-personality driven. In the evening, we took them for a night portrait session around the Winter Gardens, and back through the streets of Sheffield which provided a stunning canvas for us to play with. We returned to the evening party, where instead of the traditional first dance, Amie & Richard had a First Game of House Of The Dead, on the original arcade machine. Mind. Blown. Guys, you’ve really started something awesome here, we love it!
It was an unbelievable pleasure to be involved with your wedding day – we loved everything about it, and spending the day with you two was amazing. We can’t wait to return to The Millennium Gallery in the future. Enjoy the blog!
We haven’t photographed at many venues as awesomely unique as The Millennium Gallery, and we LOVE IT! If you’re planning a wedding here, then please get in touch here to check our pricing and availability for our photography and videography packages.
