Lytham St Annes Pre-Wedding Photography – Sophie & Mat
Lytham St Annes Pre-Wedding Photography – Sophie & Mat; Tonight wasn’t a usual pre-wedding shoot. Or a usual ANY type of shoot for us. A couple of weeks ago, we decided to embrace the future. We traded in our beloved Canon photography gear, and invested in the new Sony A7iii full frame mirrorless system.
Yes, an unnervingly radical change that needed to happen at some point, so now is a good a time as any! We’ve both been avid Canon shooters for as long as we’ve been into photography, so this radical change to our equipment needed a baptism-of-fire shoot so we could really put ourselves and the new gear through it’s paces before bringing it to our weddings.
Sophie and Mat from O’Neill & Jones (an AWESOME music duo and bonafide-engaged couple), came down from Manchester to watch us struggle away trying to learn a completely alien system. We tried to set expectations as low as possible. I did mention that this shoot was going to be the photographic equivalent of a woodlouse desperately trying to right itself from a prone position, just to set their expectation super-low.
I think the expectation was that we’d just stand there, play it safe, get to grips with the basics, and then we were done. We tried, and it lasted about 5 seconds. A minute later, we were getting Sophie and Mat to run fill-tilt over the St Annes sand dunes. We were running backwards trying to get the focus tracking to fail, and trying not to break our ankles in the long dune grass. Suffice to say that playing it safe is NEVER on our agenda. We had a couple of breaks to check our progress, work through some more challenging scenarios. During these times, Sophie & Mat were on hand to entertain us and a few passers-by with some original songs 🙂 We had an awesome time with these guys – to hear some of their music, head on over to their facebook page Here.
We spent a couple of hours on the dunes, the beach, and walking the beautiful seafront by our St Annes seaside home. We were treated to a rare full-on golden hour, which made it an incredibly perfect test situation for us.
We left the shoot confident we’d made the right choice (our backs thanked us with the vastly reduced weight for a start), but it wasn’t until we culled and edited the shoot we realised just how remarkable the new generation Sony has put out really is. Thank you SO much Sophie and Mat for being our willing victims on our first Sony shoot – enjoy the blog!
