Lewes Castle Wedding Photography – Katie & Ben

Nov 2, 2017

We arrived in Ringmer, a stone’s throw from Lewes Castle, to find a wonderfully quirky B&B. It was decorated rather curiously with what can only be described as an unnerving collection of taxidermied weasels. So far, an interesting trip before we’d even begun!

Lewes Castle Wedding Photography | The south coast has such a relaxed feel to it. So far out of the hustle and bustle of the city. It’s the perfect environment for the fun, relaxed and personal weddings we love to photograph. Katie and Ben threw the perfect party to celebrate their wedding exactly in this vein. It was such a joy to experience.

They invited us to photograph their wedding at Lewes Castle, and the after party at the stunning Gote Farm too.

We started the day at a golf retreat down the road, before heading to the stunning Lewes Castle for the ceremony. The sun was shining, and the temperature was pushing thirty degrees by the time we arrived there. Ben and the boys headed to the pub just down the road for a quick drink before waiting for Katie to arrive to the castle grounds. Lewes is what we call a proper castle. It’s two towers in their original glory overlooking the Sussex countryside and the beautiful village of Lewes.

After a wonderfully personal humanist ceremony, we took Katie and Ben away up the towers for some portraits and alone time. The we all headed over to Gote Farm in nearby Ringmer to start the party. Gote farm is a proper working farm, and Katie and Ben had spent weeks ensuring the barn was ready to host their party in style. Will Craig who owns the barn put endless work transforming this into the most beautiful barn venue just for their day. Please can we come back Will?

When we arrived to the barn and saw it in person, we were truly blown away. It has a magnificent vaulted beam ceiling, and is now decked out with vintage Edison bulbs along its entire length.

A stage for the band sits at one end, and at the other, a staggering array of gorgeous looking (and tasting) cakes made by the guests.

In typical country style, this was not a stuffy formal party. Hammers and stumps, lawn darts, a ball pool, and an outdoor cocktail bar kept the guests entertained. Amazing ales by the fabulous mother of the groom, Lesley Foulkes from Langham Brewery accompanied a bbq wedding breakfast which we enjoyed outside while the guests relaxed. Then energetic and musical speeches, finally leading to an evening party to remember.

When the sun went down in the evening, we just had to get this gorgeous pair out for another mini portrait session. Just look at that light!
