Alcumlow Wedding Barn Videography
Katie & Matt got married at the fabulous Alcumlow Wedding Barn, and chose us to be their wedding videographers. With a rustic barn in the Cheshire countryside, romantic vintage lightbulbs hanging everywhere, and a cornfield to explore at sunset.
We couldn’t get enough of the laid-back vibe these two created to spend the day with their family and friends.
Katie & Matt’s story of how they got to the point of their wedding is truly fantastic, and we couldn’t help but share it with you here!
‘We met after Matt’s family moved into a house across the road from my Mum’s. I remember Matt walking past he house one day and I was helping my Mum to take down the curtains and blinds and I said “I’m gonna marry him one day.” That was back in 2002 and here we are.
Matt’s story of when he first saw me, he turned around to give me a second glance, tripped and fell up the stairs to his house. He said he had never moved so fast when he ran inside out of embarrassment. We’d been together for about 6 years before I knew of this, he didn’t realise I’d never even saw him on this day!
Matt proposed after 10 years. We had celebrated our 10 year anniversary in March and Matt took me to Paris.
Everyone was saying he’s going to propose, I kept saying “no way” but after abit of time I started to think oh maybe he will! Anyways we came back from Paris – not engaged! 😂 It was 2 months after Paris, I’d given up hope of getting married at this point, (i mean we’d brought a house and been living together for 4 years and we’d also got our little dog too! What else did we need to do?).
On a Sunday afternoon dog walk. We were walking our usual route and I could just see a girl a microphone and a guy with an acoustic guitar set back on the grass. I could hear the music and singing, they were singing a fave song of ours, Sky Full of Stars. As we got closer I realised the girl was Chloe. Chloe is the sister of my friend Kia, and I was saying why is Kia’s sister singing at Westport Lake 😂 I turned around, Matt was on one knee.
I don’t remember exactly what he said to me but I obviously said yes. Then he screamed out “SHE SAID YES” Next minute all of our closest friends and our family came running out of nowhere. They had been hiding in the trees and just through a tunnel.
They had set cameras up so I have videos from all different angles. So lovely! We got back to the house, everyone in tow and in the space of us leaving and getting back the whole house had been decorated and food and drink everywhere.
My mum who had “popped down for a brew” said it was like a military operation, she’s never seen anything like it, my friends came in with slow cookers full of food, decorations, boxes of drinks etc! Although they nearly didnt get into the house as my Mum, who had one job set by Matt, to let everyone in, ended up locking them out….our best friend Andrew had to jump across two neighbours fences to get to the back door instead! Matt had planned all of this with my best friends and we all celebrated together! Perfect!’

We asked Katie & Matt to share some of their wedding planning tips. If you’re planning a rustic barn, DIY wedding then you HAVE to read this!
‘We would say do as much as you can as early as you can. I made the decision to be a DIY bride. I love anything crafty or to be a bit creative. We made everything from decorations to all of the stationary. Be prepared to develop some sort of love/hate relationship with your laptop and printer!
We booked our wedding to get married about 12 months ahead, which we learnt in wedding time that isn’t very long. We had booked 3 venue viewings, Alcumlow Wedding Barn was the first. It was love at first sight! We met with Charlie, our wedding coordinator and events manager and Bev and Todd who are the owners.
With a view to go and see the others, we left. I mean this was our first venue viewing, we need to see more right? However in the car on the way back home, we both looked at each other. We knew we wouldn’t want to get married anywhere else. Matt turned the car around and we went back to book up! Charlie, Bev and Todd made us love the place even more. Their professionalism and friendliness is second to none. Charlie had been just as invested in our day as me and Matt have.q I couldn’t thank Charlie enough for all of her help.’
