Abbey House Wedding Photography – Jo & Dean

Apr 9, 2018

Abbey House Hotel in Furness, Cumbria, was one of the first lake district wedding venues we ever shot, way back at the start of our wedding photography adventure. Since then it’s always held a special place in our hearts. The wonderfully imposing sandstone facade overlooked by Furness Abbey and not far from Ulverston in Cumbria, is a place we love seeing on a wedding morning.

Abbey House Wedding Photograhy | It’s a grand old Cumbrian building with modern facilities, but all of this is overshadowed by the food. It’s something special, and it’s ridiculous the amount we look forward to the wedding breakfast there!! For Jo and Dean’s wedding, the full day from prep until party was in the same location. So after a glorious drive through the southern lake district we parked up in the morning and prepared for one epic wedding party.

Jo and the bridesmaids were getting ready in a suite. Our amazing friend and THE most talented makeup artist, Sonara Parker, was already working her magic in the morning window light of the room. Katie stayed with the bridal party while I went off to find Dean getting ready in his room. The groomsmen arrived, and we went to meet the guests before the ceremony. The day had started out hot, and the temperature peaked as the full Cumbrian sun rose to its full overhead peak just before the ceremony.

When Jo entered the ceremony room to walk down the aisle, jaws dropped, tears fell, and a beautiful and heartfelt ceremony ensued. Then, it was everybody outside for fun, games, rolling down a hill, and and impromptu, laced-with-danger frisbee game on the lawn. The drinks flowed, and the atmosphere relaxed into a fun and personal afternoon full of laughter.

We sat with the guests for the beautiful wedding breakfast. After capturing their speeches, it was on to the evening party.

The evening reception was held in the Cavendish Suite at Abbey House. The band arrived and got ready to play their first set and get the party started for the evening. We tore ourselves away from the action just long enough to set up some lights. The first dance kicked off shortly after, starting a party which lasted in to the night.

We stole our couple away for a last few portraits in the fading light, before the sun completely set behind the trees surrounding Abbey House.
